What is an AED?

An Automated External Defibrillator or AED is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the potentially life threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia in a patient, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electrical therapy which stops the arrhythmia, allowing the heart to reestablish an effective rhythm.

AEDs are designed to be simple to use for the layman, and the use of AEDs is taught in many first aid, first responder and Basic Life Support (BLS) level CPR classes

However, We can deliver this course in-house for up to 12 people at a cost of £335.00.  This includes all materials, assessment and certification.

Description Designed to give responsible designated personnel the skills to use the Automated External Defibrillator in the resuscitation process
Objectives

·  Introduction and history of the defibrillator
 
·  How the defibrillator works
 
·  Recap of CPR and respiratory arrest
 
·  Basic life support/Chain of survival including the good Samaritan law
 
·  Human Electro - Conduction system
 
·  Practical scenarios
 
·  Procedures (Report forms and cleaning your equipment)..

 
Prerequisites You must have completed a practical first aid course
Suitability  A designated first aider or a person nominated to provide support to qualified first aiders.
Typical Clients Large companies, banks, care homes, etc.
 
Certification Continuous assessment by trainer.  Delegates will receive a certificate, valid for 1 year, on successful completion of the assessment.
